Teaching

Liss Fain Dance has two ongoing education programs that connect the company with both young people and advanced dancers. The company's outreach program, developed in partnership with 826 Valencia, provides opportunities for students from a broad spectrum of communities to combine dance and movement with creative writing. LFD has also partnered with Breakthrough San Francisco for a semester-long series of outreach workshops. For advanced and professional dancers, LFD's intensive workshops immerse participants in an intimate experience of the company's creative process for developing installation work.

OUTREACH WITH 826 VALENCIA

In 2012, Liss Fain Dance partnered with 826 Valencia, an outstanding San Francisco organization that supports writing and literacy in young people, for a series of workshops that focus on the creation and integration of movement and text.

The Liss Fain Dance & 826 Valencia outreach and education program provides opportunities for students from a broad spectrum of communities to combine dance and movement with creative writing. By working with Liss Fain and members of the company, students expand their creativity, imaginations, and abilities to communicate and interpret both abstract and concrete ideas through movement and writing.

INTENSIVE WORKSHOPS

Liss Fain Dance holds regular workshops intended for advanced pre-professional and professional dancers who are interested in the company's work, which fuses contemporary force with the kinetic precision of classical ballet and is developed through a deeply collaborative process.

Workshop participants join artistic director Liss Fain and company members for an intensive immersion in the company's choreographic process. They work closely with the company on learning, creating, and developing movement and partnering based on the company's recent projects. Under Liss Fain's guidance, the participants develop the dynamic possibilities, personal expressiveness, and technical precision necessary for performance. The workshops frequently focus on the specific concerns and possibilities of installation work.
